VMS Code of Practice

16 May, 2013

Recruiters have thrown their support behind the Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s (REC) VMS Code of Practice by signing the agreement to promote sustainable supply chains and good recruitment.

The Government Procurement Service (GPS) has also embedded the Code’s core principles within the latest round of government framework agreements. The REC launched the Voluntary Managed Services (VMS) Code of Practice at the end of 2012 to recognise the need to balance cost control priorities with quality, safety and sustainability of supply.

Principles enshrined in the code include respect for transparency and sustainability as well as effective communication with suppliers and prompt payment.

Current members who have signed up to the code and joined the REC’s Managed Services Forum include Capita, Carlisle Managed Solutions, Reed, Page Group, Pertemps, Kent Top Temps, Asclepius and HCL.

Melanie Forbes, Managing Director of Carlisle Managed Solutions, says:
“Having a strong, robust and reliable supply chain is critical to our success.  We are delighted to be a signatory of the REC’s VMS Code of Practice and look forward to working closely with the REC in promoting sustainable supply chains.”

John Bishop, Managing Director of Strategic Accounts at Reed Specialist Recruitment, says:
“Reed is proud to have been involved in the development of the REC’s VMS Code of Practice.  VMS solutions have evolved over the last 15 years to keep pace with client demands and labour market conditions. The core principles behind the REC’s VMS Code will help to address inconsistencies in the supply chain and ensure that VMS supply remains a sustainable and profitable route to market for suppliers of all sizes.”

Commenting on the next steps, Tom Hadley REC Director of Policy and Professional Services, says:
“Our aim is to change the way in which VMS models are perceived. This is not about getting involved in commercial arrangements, it is about driving a good practice agenda that involves and ultimately benefits supplying agencies and end users as well as the VMS providers who sign up.”
