A UK based Technology firm with an annual turnover of £80M had recently lost their Finance Director to a competitor. As the relationship was very good he was asked to work the 3 month notice period so he could assist with the hiring of his successor.
MSC Headhunting was selected to conduct the headhunting campaign because of the reassurances – 3 guarantees provided together with the track record of success in finding good Finance Executives quickly. A meeting was held with the client CEO, the soon to be replaced Finance Director and the MSC Project Director. The discussions focused on the specific and detailed requirements of the role, the type of person that would fit into the business, the organisations structure, culture, products and services and future plans.
The MSC Headhunting research team quickly created a plan of action and began mapping the competition and identifying the relevant candidates to be approached. The client had also informed us of several strategic alliances they had with vendors and distributors so these were organisations that could not be considered. The MSC project consultants began contacting over 100 prospective candidates and found the biggest concern was related to confidentiality as they knew key people within the business. Mutual NDA’s were signed by all parties rather than the usual one way Non Disclosure agreement. The top 20 most relevant and interesting candidates were interviewed by telephone, then via video. The best individuals were met face to face for in depth half day meetings with the MSC Project Director. After much deliberation a shortlist of the top 5 candidates were put forward to the client with a detailed report explaining the experiences, backgrounds, characters, suitability and motivation of each of the individuals.
The shortlisted individuals were met by the client at a neutral venue over several days and the preferred 2 candidates were called to the clients office to meet the CEO and Chairman. Following a unanimous decision the favoured candidate was selected and offered the role. After negotiating a slightly shorter notice period, this allowed for the 2 Finance Directors to work together briefly and have an official handover. This enabled a smooth transition and a positive relationship at the management level.
